George C. Rable Lecture, "How Much Should We Hate the Rebels?"

George C. Rable will give a lecture at 3:30 PM on October 18, 2016, on the topic of wartime debates in the North regarding hatred and vengeance. The lecture, titled "How Much Should We Hate the Rebels?", will extend the analysis in his recent book titled Damn Yankees! Demonization and Defiance in the Confederate South (LSU Press, 2015). A winner of the Lincoln Prize, Rable is the Charles Summersell Professor Emeritus of Southern History at the University of Alabama and former president of the Society of Civil War Historians. The lecture will be held in the Harrison Institute Small Special Collections Library Auditorium at the University of Virginia.
