The Nau Civil War Center held its third annual Summer Teacher Seminar this June. Twenty-four middle school and high school teachers from across the country traveled to UVA for the week-long seminar, which was directed by Gary W. Gallagher and Caroline E. Janney. The participants discussed the centrality of slavery, the relationship between battlefront and home front, the questions left unresolved by the conflict, and the ways Americans have contested the war’s memory.
Thank you to Lois MacMillan for helping coordinate the seminar and to Ed Donnellan, Larry Dorenkamp, and Annie Evans for delivering superb presentations on pedagogy and student research!
