Inaugural Event

The Nau Center will hold an inaugural event on October 16, 2015, in honor of John L. Nau III’s gift to support the study of mid-19th-century U.S. history at the University of Virginia. The program will consist of a conversation featuring the Center’s director and associate director, Gary W. Gallagher and Elizabeth R. Varon, and Center Board members Edward L. Ayers and Thavolia Glymph. The four participants will discuss the state of Civil War-era studies, likely directions for future scholarship, and the role the Center can play at the University, in the academic world, and in forging ties with institutions engaged in public history.
