Announcing Our 2019 Library Fellows

The Nau Center is pleased to announce the recipients of its short-term research fellowships for 2019. Our award winners will conduct their research at UVA’s Albert and Shirley Small Special Collections Library.

Professor Andrew S. Bledsoe of Lee University will examine papers related to an upcoming work on the battles of Franklin and Nashville that took place in Fall 1864.

Professor David Silkenat of the University of Edinburgh will use our collections to study the environmental history of American slavery.

Professor Kelly Mezurek of Walsh University will work on an edited collection of black soldiers’ letters while on grounds.

PhD Candidate Molly Mersmann from Purdue University will work on a project focusing on the rebuilding of the of the South’s built environment during Reconstruction.

PhD Candidate Robert Colby of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will use collections related to his dissertation research on the southern slave trade during the Civil War.
