Nau Center 2018 Signature Conference: Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Q. How much does the conference cost and do I need to register in advance?
    A. The conference is free to attend and no advance registration is required.
     
  2. Q. Where is the conference and when will it begin?
    A. The conference will be held on Friday, March 30 at the Harrison Institute and Small Special Collections Library at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. The library’s physical address is 170 McCormick Road, Charlottesville, VA, 22903. The conference is open to the public at 8:00 am and our first talk starts at 8:45. We will end shortly before 5:00 pm. Please feel free to come for all or only part of the day.
     
  3. Q. Where can I park?
    A. There is limited metered and handicap parking on McCormick Road. Otherwise, the best and nearest place to park is the Central Grounds Parking Garage near the UVA Bookstore.
     
  4. Q. Will food be provided?
    A. We will serve coffee and tea in the morning and in the afternoon. We will not provide food with coffee nor will we serve lunch. However, there are a number of nearby places in walking distance at which you can grab a quick meal during the conference’s lunch break from noon to 1:00 pm. These include Alderman Café, fast food in Newcomb Hall, and a number of restaurants on the Corner.
     
  5. Q. Will the conference be taped for those who cannot attend?
    A. We do not have the ability to record the conference ourselves, however, in the event that a third-party such as CSPAN is able to film the conference, we will post the video on our website, Facebook, and Twitter pages.
     
  6. Q. Who will be presenting at this year’s conference?
    A. Our conference program is posted on our website and is available as a PDF flyer to download here. We have a wonderful lineup of top Civil War historians this year talking about some of the most important individuals from the war. This year’s conference will also be Professor Gary W. Gallagher’s last as the head of the Nau Center.
