University of Virginia graduate Wayne Wei-siang Hsieh has co-authored a new book, along with Williamson Murray, on the Civil War titled A Savage War: A Military History of the Civil War (Princeton University Press, 2016). A Savage War takes a new look at the military history of the Civil War, arguing that the conflict "ushered in the age of modern warfare." James M. McPherson has praised Hsieh and Murray's book, calling it "a genuinely fresh set of insights about the Civil War. Murray and Hsieh have crafted a military narrative that goes well beyond anything else in the literature."  You can read more about the book at the publisher's website below.
