Announcing Our 2018 Library Fellows

Monday, December 18, 2017

The Nau Center is pleased to announce the recipients of its inaugural short-term research fellowships for 2018. Our award winners will each conduct several weeks of research at UVA’s Albert and Shirley Small Special Collections Library.

Phd Candidate Caroline Newhall from the University of North Carolina will use our collections to further her research into the experience of United States Colored Troops who were captured by the Confederacy during the war.

Professor Sarah Gardner of Mercer University will work on her project exploring the reading experiences of Americans on both sides during the conflict.

Finally, Professor Dillon Carroll of St. Francis College will explore the effects of war-related mental illness on Civil War veterans.

The Nau Center would like to thank all of our applicants for their excellent proposals and looks forward to welcoming our three fellows to grounds next year.
